INTRODUCTION TO FIBER-REINFORCED POLYMER (FRP) CONCRETE REINFORCEMENT

This 1-hour course focuses on the basic understanding of what FRP rebar is and it’s uses.  The attendee will learn why there is a need for concrete to be reinforced with FRP and what applications make the most sense for its use.  The pros and cons, as well as common misconceptions of the product, will be covered.  Additionally, differences in designing concrete structures with FRP based on the design guide from ACI 440.1 will be covered.  The course provides 1 1/2 PDH for professional engineers licensed in Florida.

Speakers:

Alicia Eikenberry, P.E.

Alicia has been a practicing professional engineer for over 20 years.  A graduate of Cal Poly – San Luis Obispo in Architectural Engineering (BS) and UC- San Diego in Structural Engineering with a focus in FRP Composites (MS). She is a member of ACI 440 committee which is working on the update document from a reference to a design code. Well versed in multiple structural project types, she has focused on industrial & manufacturing for the last 10 years, mostly as a structural manager.  As owner of AMDE Structural Consulting, she also started with TUF-N-LITE in December 2020 when her client approached her for full time support of their line of GFRP reinforcement offerings. Since joining the company, she has been working on earning the first ICC-ES ESR report on GFRP rebar under the new Acceptance Criteria 454. With ESR-4664 issued, she is transitioning to training for use of the GFRP in construction.
