January Meeting Announcement

                  Topic:  Specifying Concrete in Florida

  While concrete materials and proportions had historically been specified by the engineer, most engineers today have not kept up with the advancements in concrete technology.  The industry has recognized this, with building codes and standards evolving into a more user-friendly format, allowing the engineer to simply focus on the properties of concrete he is familiar with and leave the “how” to the materials experts.  However, we continue to see outdated and many times inappropriate specifications for concrete in Florida.  Some of these specifications can potentially create problems and certainly increase costs.  This presentation will focus on changes in the Building Codes and Industry Standards as well as new developments with raw materials.

Jeff has been in the ready-mixed concrete and concrete products industry for over 40 years, specializing in materials and production.  35 years of his career has been spent in the Florida market as Technical Services Director for one of the largest concrete companies in the US.  Jeff has been involved with the Florida DOT and serves on the Concrete Technical Council of the FDOT/FCPA as well as various committees of ACI, ASTM and ASCE.
